AEI-Open Windows Visitors
Women delegation from Holland and Sweden
On Friday, 16th
June 2006, the AEI-Open Windows received a women
delegation from Holland and Sweden who were very
keen to meet with our women's group. So six
representatives of the AEI women's group
welcomed the delegation and introduced the AEI
using the power point presentation. Each woman
was responsible of presenting one axis of the
AEI programs. Although these women were tensed
at the beginning in their presentation, yet they
succeeded in presenting the institute's mission,
aims, programs, projects and activities.
The discussion
that followed the introduction was focused on
the political situation especially hit issues
such as Hamas as the new governmentand the
occupation. The Palestinian women succeeded in
communicating Palestine by giving personal
stories like Mrs. Silvana Giacaman who talked
about the child whom she lost years ago because
of the Israeli teargas bombs she was so angry
and sad but when she saw an Israeli child just
about to fall over down the electric stairs, she
ran holding him. And she talked about all the
conflicting feelings that were inside during
this experience. Also Mrs. Laurette Zughbi
talked about her experience in the first
Intifada when the Israeli military forces used
to break into her house in the middle of the
night looking for her children. She pointed to
the hard talks she had with her sons about
immigration and physiological problems, etc.
This meeting
was full of emotions and sympathy by the foreign
women to the real stories of steadfastness,
forgiveness, and long struggle against the
occupation. Finally, the meeting was very
successful in leaving a great impact on the
delegation who were good listeners to the
women's personal stories.
