AEI-Open Windows Visitors
Mr. Jan Jaap and his wife Visit
On Saturday the
3rd of June 2006, Mr. Jan Jaap and
his wife came for a visit to the AEI. They were
very interested in meeting with the Mayor and
the Minister of Tourism. At the beginning they
went with Mr. Fuad Giacaman to visit the Mayor
of Bethlehem, Mr. Victor Batarsah. They were
keen to know about the work of the municipality
and the services it offers. The effects of the
Separation Wall to Bethlehem especially the area
to the north of Bethlehem – Rachel's Tomb. And
the cut of financial resources decided by the
western government as a result of the coming of
Hamas as a new government.
Then, they went
to the Minister of Tourism; Mr. Judeh Morkus to
talk about the situation of Palestine from a
touristic perspective especially after the
building of the Separation Wall and the coming
of Hamas as the new government. There was a very
nice discussion between Jan Jaap, his wife and
Mr. Fuad on one hand and the Minister on the
other hand on the people to people Israeli/
Palestinian encounters under international
umbrella. Mr. Judeh was open, friendly and
supportive to that issue and he said that they
were ready to meet with all kinds of people of
good will to make a change and to bring peace
and justice. That made Jan Jaap wondering how
IKV (Interchurch Peace Council) could encourage
dialogue and communication among peoples.
Afterwards, they
came to the AEI-Open Windows premises to share
lunch and to remember the good times of the
joint cooperation between both organizations.
Dr. Walid Mustafa and Miss Suzy Atallah shared
the friendly conversation and the delicious food
too.
