EAPPI
volunteers at AEI - Open Windows
February 2005
AEI frequently receives volunteers from abroad;
two volunteers came from the Ecumenical
Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel,
Christine from Germany and Rune from Norway.
In January we had a meeting with Christine and
Rune. They were very interested in our work and
anxious to work with the AEI youth groups.
Christine was ready to work with our women’s
group on the subject of human rights. She worked
with them on “Biography – Story Telling”. Rune
was more interested in working with the youth
and worked with the high school youth group.
Both were interested in the Open Windows Youth
House programme. Here the idea is that a youth
team of some 20 persons receive training on
youth management for over six months. The
volunteers were ready to participate in the
preparatory training session. Rune gave the
first training to the management training group
titled “How to present oneself?” On 4th
February 2005 he participated in the university
youth group. He gave them a task to prepare a
presentation for the next meeting. Both also
gave a training for the youth management
training group for a second time on “How to
organize a meeting”.
On the 10th February 2005, Christine
and Rune and in addition another member of the
Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine
and Israel, Mr. David, who was working in Nablus
but was not allowed to enter anymore the area by
the Israeli soldiers there, joined us in a
workshop and fieldtrip to Jericho. There we went
to the Saint George Monastery walking through
the Wadi Kilt Valley. Afterwards we visited the
Nabi Musa Mosque.
On Monday 14th February 2005, the
volunteers invited us for a farewell meeting.
There we also met the various institutes they
had worked with.
We are impressed for what they offered and
taught us. We are also proud of their sympathy
for and solidarity with our youth groups in
particular, and with the Palestinian people in
general. We are really thankful
for their efforts.
