Parents’ Group Meeting

The Arab Educational Institute – Open windows held a meeting on Thursday 4th of October 2007 at 7:30pm for the Parents’ Group at the Sumud Peace House a branch of the AEI near Rachel’s Tomb.

Mr.Fuad Giacaman, AEI General Director opened the meeting by a welcoming word where he gave a briefing of the Sumud House and the idea behind the establishment of this center. Mr.Fuad also mentioned the importance of this center in  this place which has became dead, stark, isolated and a military place The goal of the Center is to revitalize the place, street, shops and to give hope and faith to the families in their steadfastness, patience and their nonviolent peaceful resistance, in spite of the occupation and the ugly wall.

The meeting focused on the wall presented by a movie produced by two American volunteers about the Apartheid Wall entitled “Rachel’s Wall” and its devastating impacts on the citizen’s life from all the economic, social, educational and health aspects.

The parents’ group gave their impressions and remarks on Rachel’s Wall Documentary film:

1.     Name of the documentary: prefer not to use religious symbols in order not to be misunderstood by others. Suggestion “ Neighbors wall “ or other title

2.     The idea of the film is expressive and the film will be the best on publicity for the Western World because the world now is asking for facts.

3.     The film contains enough materials and narrative to cover and highlights Rachel’s Tomb area.

4.     The film holds a strong message to the local, regional and the internationals community because it is communicating daily life realties.

5.     It is more preferable to put the sound of the mosque and the bells of the church in one part to communicate the Palestinian religious identity: Christian Muslim Living Together.

At the end of the meeting, Mrs. and Mr. Danoun offered delicious oriental sweets named Kattayef stuffed with cheese and coconut which gave a wonderful comfortable and brotherly and sisterly atmosphere between Christian and Muslim members of the group during the month of Ramadan.
