Two Cartoon
Making Workshops

In July 2007, the Arab
Educational Institute and Camera etc (Liège,
Belgium) organized two workshops about
cartoon making, one for the youth and the
other one for the children.

During the first week,
twelve youth aged from 15 to 17 made a
cartoon about their daily life in Palestine
with the help of four trainers. They wrote
the scenario, created the characters in
black paper, took pictures for the
backgrounds, filmed, recorded their voices
and wrote a song together. Through this
process, the youth could experience the
different steps in the realisation of a
cartoon movie, develop their creativity and
express themselves. The result is a cartoon
called “Hudud (borders)”. It is eight
minutes long and presents some aspects of
the life of young Palestinians through five
fictive characters. We hope this training
will be a new start and the participants
will use their creativity and their new
skills to make more movies.

During
the second week, the trainers and twelve
kids aged between 8 and 13 created a fairy
tale about Palestine and the wall. Then they
made a cartoon movie called “Warda” (flower,
rose) out of it. The kids drew the
characters and the backgrounds of the movie;
they also recorded their voices and filmed
the whole story. The result is a very touchy
cartoon of 5 minutes.
The two movies will be
finalized before the end of September and
you will be able to see them through YouTube.
